Mission and aims

Problem addressed:  Cattle’s rustling is a major problem facing the pastoralist community in Kenya.Its rampant affects it mostly felt in rift-valley province in the northern frontier. Large numbers of life due to hunger and lack of drinking water for people and animals died due to prolonged drought and ovement of people and their animals to better pastures which they never did due to inter-tribal wars. People steal others’ livestock because they lost their own animals due to drought and famine or due to raids
                                                                                        Objectives-Purposes:
Reducing cases of livestock theft by 30% by the end of the period of 2 years
Improving the living standard of the Communities and educational standards e democratic approch in decision making. Supporting the communities to start small-scale income, generating activities between them to get money
 

Actions

First year programme:
The first activity to be carried out in this community involved meeting with the rival groups. A selected number of people, Women for first, have been taken for a seminar at an outside place from their area. They have thought about the demerits of cattle rustling and investment decisions that they make and on managing their financies .

The second year programme:
Implementation phase; the project will involve the building of a primary school which shall be a boarding school and children from the three communities will be able to learn and interact with each other. The project will also involve the selection of another set of 30 members who will be awarded loans to start their own income generating activities. It will also involve training of community members on leadership skills and community empowerment. One member from each community will be meeting with organizations officials and be a medium for passing information and help the organization achieve its goals.

The activity will involve working with the group (youth groups, women group ect) to bring harmony to the community both internally and externally through organized workshop, seminars talks at respective areas of residence for samburu, Turkana and pokot. They will receive talk and advices from peace and democratic  facilitators in the district, from religious leader and from victims of cattle rustling from other areas, and talks from elders from the three communities as well as from political leaders. The project will try to find ways of identifying the raids leaders and make them meet with other to find a common business goal for all of them. It is planned to establish an office Of democracy and peace, to produce a book, several brochures a video documentary, in order to replicate the model in other living context with similar cultural background. 
Results/Outcomes Women empowerment, Communities empowerment and democratic approch to the decision making internally and externally the tribe, generating activities in which the beneficiaries will be self-reliant financially and when they pay back the loans. Creating awareness among the youth and other members of the community. 48 meetings in 24 months between the three communities. weekly one meeting with project leaders. 

Monitoring and Evaluation

The project is evaluated monthly.Tools to be used in evaluation process will include focus group discussions(FGD),pay – back period(PBP)and interviews. These methods are most appropriate given that majority of the beneficiaries are illiterate and methods like questionnaires are not appropriate. 
Innovation is the woman and youth empowerment given by the direct contact with politics and decision making leaders. they will be awared of how the decisions are taken by the communities leader and they will have the chance to propose solutions to create a democratic living style and to stop the war Sustainability The income generating activities will empower the beneficiaries to be self-reliant financially and when they pay back the loans, other members will be able to access the loans and the interests thereon be used to carry out awareness workshops and seminars and part of it to be used to pay the staff
