PREAMBLE
The month started with a peace meeting held in Nkorika centre in our Angata Nanyokie location on 01/05/2010. The meeting was addressed by Honorable Maison Leshoomo, the area chief and the staffs of MIPPP. The month remained the first to be the first not to witness a single incident all through.

PEACE MEETINGS.
·         There was the peace meeting at Nkorika which was attended by the Samburu community only. About 400 people both men and women, young and old. They resolved to live peacefully with the Pokots and the Turkana communities. MIPPP was the initiator of the meeting hence addressed the gathering.

·         On 07/05/2010, Laikipia peace caravan and MIPPP arranged for a peace meeting at Kurkur area near Pura for both Samburu and the Pokots communities and were well attended in large numbers. This meeting was very successful as per our assessments. About 200 Pokots attended and the attendance was put to an average of 1000 persons. Speakers from both communities made serious promises and vowed to maintain peace. There were high hopes of peaceful co-existence between the two communities.

·         On 12/05/2010, MIPPP organized a treatment day for the Pokots and the people of Malaso area. The event took place at NYUMBA YA AMANI-MALASO. The Pokots and the Samburus turned up in large numbers and the day made itself for another peace meeting between the two communities which was facilitated by the MIPPP staff. Over 200 people were treated on this day and the two communities were grateful to the MIPPP management. During the meeting peaceful promises were made by the two communities. The MIPPP’s management together with the Catholic mission of Morijo hopes to continue taking drugs to the Pokots and those living around there every week on Wednesdays but the week that followed was not possible as Paul’s car was defective hence we could not travel.

·         On 26/05/2010, our team went back to Malaso to treat and provide clinics to the Pokots and the people around that area. The day was very successful. We requested the Pokot community to give some children to be taken to Morijo primary school and they agreed to give four children immediately. Those are going to be two boys and two girls. We could not bring these children that fast as Morijo community had also to be sensitized on Pokot children at Morijo. This exercise was deferred to august 2010 to allow more consultations to take place and arrangements are made with the school administration. Mr. Todo was one of the Pokots leaders men who offered to give the children to Morijo for schooling.

·         There was a day seminar at Nokura in Suyian location. The  seminar was attended and addressed by:

Ø  MIPPP staff- Facilitator
Ø  Lenyokopiro Malaiton-Area chief Suyian
Ø  Ewoi Robert-Marti chief
Ø  Church personnel from Barsaloi

Participants agreed to maintain peace with their neighbors.

WAY FORWARD.
1.       Pokots morans workshop on 02/06/2010 at Malaso escarpment (Malaso)
2.       Turkana morans workshop at Marti and the dates are yet to be confirmed.
3.       Staff sensitization workshop. This has taken long as some of the facilitators (board) had to come from outside the district.

CHALLENGES
v  Pokot community had agreed to bring children to School. As staff, we could like these children to be sponsored.
v  The project also requested that some Pokot people be included into our staffs. Kindly provide us with some feedback on this.
v  Rains had fallen heavily and the communities had moved to what they thought as save areas for them. Distances are too far and at times no roads could reach these areas and these have contributed to breakages of the vehicle.
v   The staff would have liked to be more mobile but resources could not allow.

CONCLUSION
v  MIPPP received its May activities allocations on time and would like to thank the enablers for the same.
v  May, 2010, was the first month to end without a single conflict being reported. MIPPP thank God and the concern communities to the peace enjoyed.
v  Pokot community became accessible and there was need to keep in touch with them frequently. These will demand more:

          1. Inclusion of Pokot into our staff (employees).
          2. Bringing Pokot children to Morijo School and maintaining them.

The project staff prays for more peaceful and stable months to come.
