PREAMBLE
The month of July 2010 was calm as far as raids between the warring tribes namely the Samburu, Turkana and Pokots are concerned. This was not to say the month was purely free from a few sporadic incidences here and there. Some peace meetings/workshops took place as given here below.

HAPPENNINGS
1.       On 08.07.2010, some twelve (12) heads of cattle believed to have been taken from the Pokots of Malaso during previous month’s raid were surrendered by the Turkana from Nachola to Baragoi Police station and were given back to their owners. This was a good gesture for peace.

2.       Conflict resolution researching students some from America, were shot at around Mbukoi area between Morijo and Marti centre. No person was injured but the occupants of the vehicle were looted of their valuables. The attackers were traced to Barsaloi area and their names were given to the local government authorities to take the necessary measures. This gang of crooks was three in number and is still not yet arrested. They are Samburus and we do hope that government will arrest them and prosecute them in a court of law. By doing this, road banditry will come to an end.

MEETINGS /SEMINARS/WORKSHOP
1.       A workshop for Angata Nanyukie location women took place at Morijo on 20/07/2010. Participants were fifty in number(50) and came from all the villages as shown below:

-Morijo 15 participants
-Angata Nanyukie plus Sunoni –15 participants
-Nkorika—10 participants
-Soit pus—10 participants

Total of 50 participants
A similar workshop had been planned for Marti and Suyian locations to take place on 27/07/2010 and was later postponed due to referendum campaigns that were hot in the country. The same will take place in august 2010 in a day to be identified soon. The women are of different ages in these workshops.
2.       Laikipia Peace Caravan teamed up with MIPPP and held a peace meeting between Samburu and Pokots at Siambu-Malaso area on 29/07/2010. The two communities attended in large numbers and promised to maintain peace in their area.

3.       The same Laikipia Peace Caravan and MIPPP moved to Morijo the following day on 30/07/2010 and held a similar peace meeting with Angata Nanyukie residents. Many people of different ages attended and promised to keep peace with their neighbours.

WAY FORWARD
1.       Marti/Suyian workshop
2.       Pokot Morans/Elders  workshop
3.       Angata Nanyukie elders workshop
The above workshops are scheduled to take place in the month of August 2010 but the Marti/Suyian elders workshop, is to take place early September2010. All this workshop will depend on the availability of the participants.

CONCLUSION
To our view, conflicts had reduced drastically in the period our project had been in existence. The project looks forward to focus on other community issues in future in its life increased. This could be in the field of education, health and poverty reduction. Barsaloi area still poses a serious challenge to us.
