PREAMBLE

The month of October, 2010 witnessed an extra sponsorship for MIPPP after the initial nine months trial period.
Not much could have been done within the month as MIPPP staff was not sure of funding. Details of activities and incidences as given here below.

PEACE MEETINGS
03/10/2010 –Laikipia Peace Caravan teamed up with MIPPP and convened a peace meeting and Morijo that was attended by some thirteen Pokots representatives and a large number of samburu people. Both communities spoke and appreciated the peace enjoyed upto that far and praised the work done by MIPPP staff. They also promised to uphold the same peace in future.

OTHER MEETINGS
Every Wednesday in every week, MIPPP continued to send some of its members to Malaso to make frequent contacts with Pokot community. Informal discussions were normally carried out, information given and drugs for the sick were delivered.

INCIDENCES
The cattle, earlier reported taken by Samburu while migrating to Isiolo, numbering thirty six (36) had been returned to Turkana community and handed over to owners. This was a good sign of peace between the two communities.
09/10/2010-Road bandits shot at vehicles at Mbukoi area-between Morijo and Marti. No casualties were reported and footsteps led to samburu side. No arrests had been made to date and investigations still on. Nothing was stolen.
28/10/2010: In the night of Thursday/Friday, Pokot thieves attempted to still some cattle at Morijo but discovered and chased away.

 WAY FORWARD

·         Meeting between Pokot/Samburu was done but Turkana/Pokot still a huge problem.
·         Turkana morans meting had been planned but distance pose serious challenge. MIPPP hoped to conduct this meeting within the month.

 CHALLENGES

·         Barsaloi corridor remained unsolved
·         Troubling Pokot thieves from Nabekut and Nadome areas not reached.
·         Pokot/Turkana still engaged in serious fights in Baragoi and Lomelo areas.
This continued to pose threats to peace in larger areas.

CONCLUSION
MIPPP would do what is possible to suppress any upcoming peace threats in its area of operation. It also could not be tired in thanking Amici Di PadreAldo for the continued support without which work would have been impossible.
